William Barclay Lectureship Trust
Before his death in 1978, William Barclay agreed to the establishment of a Trust set up in his name which would organise an annual celebration of his life in the form of a lecture recalling the man and expanding on themes he explained so clearly.
This website is published by the William Barclay Lectureship Trust in order to bring his work to the attention of a new and wider audience.
The 2007 Barclay Lecture will be delivered by the Rev Bob Brown of Queen's Cross Church in Aberdeen, with the theme 'The Gospel at Ground Level'. It takes place at 7.30 pm on Wednesday 7 November at Renfield St Stephen's Church in Bath Street, Glasgow.
The 2006 Barclay Lecture took place in Renfield St Stephens Church on Wednesday 22nd November 2006 at 7.30pm. The Lecturer was the Rev Leith Fisher.
The 2005 Barclay Lecture was delivered on Wednesday 2 November at 7.30 pm in Renfield St Stephens Church in Glasgow by Dr Alison Elliot, who was Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland from 2004-2005. The title was "Preach the Gospel at all times, and if necessary, use words", and the full text can be downloaded here (pdf, 140kb).

The 26th William Barclay Memorial Lecture was delivered on November 3, 2004, to an audience of around 200 at Renfield St Stephen's Church in Glasgow, by the Rev John Miller, minister at Castlemilk East Parish Church and former Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.
At the same time the Rev Dr Jim Martin, friend and biographer of William Barclay and former editor of the Daily Study Bible, stood down as chairman of the Trust, a post he had held since its inception.
Mr Martin's successor, the Rev Robert Johnston, paid tribute to him: "Jim has given himself to the promotion of William Barclay’s books by keeping them alive for today. We mustn't forget that Jim Martin himself has done a tremendous amount to communicate the Gospel."
